Common questions
What exactly gets removed?
Everything the camera wrote alongside the picture: make and model, the date and time it was taken, exposure and lens settings, orientation, software used, and GPS coordinates if location was on. The output keeps only the pixels.
Why would a photo contain my location?
Most phones record GPS coordinates into every photo by default. It is invisible in the picture but readable by anything that opens the file, which means a holiday photo or a marketplace listing can reveal exactly where you were standing.
Does removing metadata change how the photo looks?
No. The pixels are re-encoded at high quality, so the image is visually identical. The one thing to know is that a rotation flag is also metadata — this tool applies the rotation to the pixels first, so the picture stays the right way up.
Do the other tools strip metadata too?
Yes. Anything that passes through the compressor, editor or resizer is re-encoded, and the metadata does not survive that. This page exists for when removing it is the only thing you wanted to do.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
